MANILA -- Typhoon "Maymay" (international name: "Jebi") has entered the Philippine area of responsibility on Sunday afternoon, the state weather bureau said.
PAGASA said Maymay is packing maximum winds of up to 190 kilometers per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 235 kilometers per hour.
But the state weather bureau clarified in its afternoon bulletin that the typhoon, located 1,375 kms east-northeast of Basco-Batanes, has no direct threat to the country.
Maymay is also not expected to significantly enhance the southwest monsoon (habagat), PAGASA added. The typhoon, it said, is expected to exit the country's waters within the next 12 hours.
