ZAMBOANGA CITY - Two persons were killed when a huge fire hit Barangay Kasanyangan on the evening of Eid'l Adha for a still unknown cause.

Authorities identified the fatalities as Lakibul Musad, 78, and Polman Janaldi, 67.

The victims were trapped inside their homes when the fire started.

Julfa, Janaldi's wife, appealed for financial aid for the burial of her husband and for the reconstruction of their house.

Indigenous people's representative Tungku Hanapi said hundreds of houses were razed to the ground. The homes were mostly made of light materials.

Resident Zenaida Abibon, 58, said she and her family were sleeping when they were awakened by their neighbor's cries that there was a fire.

While they escaped the flames, they were not able to save any belongings.
