(UPDATE) DAVAO CITY - The pregnant woman who suffered brain injuries due to shrapnel wounds is still in a "semi-comatose" condition, hospital officials sad Saturday.
Initial reports said the woman, who is seven months pregnant, succumbed to her injuries, but Southern Philippines Medical Center chief Leopoldo Vega said she was still confined in the intensive care unit.
"We have yet to find out if the mother will become stable because it is very unpredictable when it comes to brain injuries," Vega said.
"If the mother survives then the infant survives," he added.
The woman is among the 67 injured after a blast hit a night market along Roxas avenue Friday evening. Thirty-three other blast victims were confined at the SPMC, while nine others wounded were taken to the Davao Doctors Hospital.
President Rodrigo Duterte had said that the government would foot the victims' hospital bills.
