MANILA - The local government of Quezon City on Saturday welcomed the initiative of a mall operator to open its parking area for use as public transport terminal to help ease traffic in the Novaliches district.
The management of Crossroads Tandang Sora made the offer to Mayor Joy Belmonte during her spot inspection in Novaliches, opening its parking area to jeepneys, UV Express vans and tricycles.
"Your generous gesture is very much welcome given the heavy traffic in the area [and] due to the presence of three terminals right on the road," Belmonte said.
The mall is located near the corner of Quirino Highway and Tandang Sora Avenue where heavy foot and road traffic are experienced every day.
Belmonte is hoping that more malls would follow suit as she urged the private sector to become partners in easing traffic in the city.
"We are praying that other malls like SM, Robinsons, Ayala and others will follow your lead as a private sector partner in the Bayanihan sa Lansangan program,” the chief executive said.
