MANILA - A trusted ally of embattled Albuera, Leyte Mayor Rolando Espinosa Sr. has resigned from his post as municipal administrator.
Albuera administrator Darryl Meneses cited personal reasons behind his resignation, which took effect on Wednesday.
Espinosa, who has been linked to the illegal drug trade by President Rodrigo Duterte, did not object to Meneses' decision to vacate his post, but declined to address the resignation during a press conference on Tuesday.
Meneses was a key contributor to the poll campaign of Espinosa, based on the mayor's statement of contributions and expenditures.
Before stepping down from his post, Meneses executed a police blotter in which he denied any involvement in the alleged illegal activities of Espinosa's suspected drug lord son, "Roland Kerwin."
The elder Espinosa, on his part, named his son's alleged protectors in a seven-page affidavit.
