MANILA—The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) on Friday said it was dismayed when it found out that 4 convicted Chinese drug convicts were released from the national penitentiary for deportation.
In PDEA's letter to the Board of Pardons and Parole (BPP) dated February 13, PDEA director-general Aaron Aquino said the development involving convicts Chan Chit Yue, Kin San Ho, Ching Che, and Wu Hing Sum was dubious.
“It is very questionable why they were released. PDEA is questioning the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) and the BPP why they did not consult the agency," Aquino said.
“PDEA will not just concur to any decision rendered by any institution as it gives paramount importance to the efforts of the government in its fight against illegal drugs. We are disappointed by the decision that we believe did not conform with the process."
Sen. Panfilo Lacson had revealed the move to deport the 4 convicts, saying the 4 were freed due to good conduct time allowance.
