MANILA- Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez on Wednesday said he is open to the possibility of a House probe on the killing of 17-year-old Kian Loyd Delos Santos.
Speaking to reporters, Alvarez said he welcomes plans of lawmakers for an additional probe on the case of the slain teen, whose death has sparked public outrage and has raised doubts on the conduct of police operations.
"Wala namang problema sa akin 'yan. Kung merong mag-file na gusto imbestigahan, [eh] di imbestigahan natin...Kung gusto ng ating mga congressman na mag imbestiga pa rin di naman ako tutol," he said.
The House has been criticized by lawmakers for being silent or slow on various proposals for its own probe on the teen's death.
On Tuesday, the Office of the Ombudsman announced its own probe on the teen's slay, which has also prompted a Senate inquiry.
The Philippine National Police and the National Bureau of Investigation, an attached agency of the Department of Justice, are also undertaking separate investigations.
Delos Santos was killed in a police anti-drug operation last Aug. 16 after cops claimed that he fought back.
A closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage showed that 2 cops in civilian clothes accosted Delos Santos towards the direction where he was supposedly killed. Witnesses said they saw cops hand the teen a gun, and told the latter to run for his life.
The teen was buried on Saturday, a burial that drew a crowd of hundreds who demanded justice for his death.
