MANILA - A magnitude 4.2 earthquake hit Sagada, Mountain Province on Wednesday morning, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.
The 17-kilometer deep tremor, which was tectonic in origin, was located at 14 kilometers northeast of Sagada.
The following intensities were reported in these areas:
Intensity V - Sagada & Bontoc, Mountain Province
Intensity IV - Besao, Mountain Province
Intensity I - La Trinidad, Benguet
The Phivolcs said no damage or aftershocks are expected.
Earlier, a magnitude 5.1 earthquake also rocked areas in the province of Cagayan and Ilocos at around 6:08: a.m.
Intensity IV was recorded in Calayan and Santa Paxedes in Cagayan, as well as in Pagudpud, Ilocos Norte; while Intensity III was felt in Sanchez Mira, Cagayan; and in Dumalneg and Baruyan, Ilocos Norte.
Intensity II was also felt in Laoag City; in Pasuquin, Ilocos Norte; in Luna, Sta. Marcela, and Flora in Apayao; and Intensity I in Peñablanca, Cagayan.
Phivolcs also recorded Instrumental Intensity in Claveria, Cagayan, Instrumental Intensity II in Laoag City and Sinait in Ilocos Sur; and Instrumental Intensity I in Gonzaga, Cagayan.
