MANILA - President Rodrigo Duterte on Wednesday said he has ordered a lifestyle check on Iloilo City Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog.
"Mabilog sent world that he wants to talk to me, and I have some lifestyle check on him. His house is like a palace in... sabi ko, anak siguro talaga ito ng mayamang mayaman. 'Yung bahay niya talagang, pinasilip ko sa [National Bureau of Investigation] at sa [Bureau of Internal Revenue]. It's really a palace," Duterte said.
Mabilog on Tuesday requested for a meeting with the President after the latter tapped Chief Inspector Jovie Espenido as Iloilo's new police chief.
Mabilog said he has tried but failed to personally present his track record to the Chief Executive ever since the latter named him among the alleged "narco-politicians" last year.
Duterte had described Iloilo as the "most shabulized" city in the country. On Monday, he confirmed that he is sending Espenido to the chartered city with the order to go after Mabilog.
Espenido served as chief of police in Albuera and Ozamiz towns when its respective mayors, Rolando Espinosa Sr. and Reynaldo Parojinog Sr., were killed in separate police operations.
