MANILA -- Sen. Panfilo Lacson said Thursday 4 Chinese drug convicts were released from the national penitentiary due to good conduct and were set for deportation.
Lacson could not give further details except the 4 were freed due to good conduct time allowance or GCTA. Murder and rape convict Antonio Sanchez tagged in one of the Philippines' most notorious crimes in the 1990s, was reportedly set for release on good conduct credits.
The senator identified the released Chinese nationals as Chan Chit Yue, Kin San Ho, Ching Che, and Wu Hing Sum. The 4 were detained at the New Bilibid Prisons' Maximum Security Compound.
In an interview with DZMM earlier Thursday, Lacson expressed concern that the GCTA could lead to corruption.
