MANILA- Malacañang has declared September 1 a regular holiday in observance of the Muslim festival Eid'l Adha or the Feast of Sacrifice.

Proclamation No. 297 said the National Commission on Muslim Filipinos (NCMF) has recommended to observe the occasion on the said date based on the Islamic Calendar.

Eid'l Adha is one of Islam's two major feasts along with Eid'l Fitr.

Eid'l Adha marks the descent of pilgrims as they complete the annual Hajj in Mecca, Islam’s holiest city. It commemorates the sacrifice made by Abraham in obedience to Allah’s command. --Report from Dharel Placido, ABS-CBN News
