MANILA - The Commission of Human Rights (CHR) condemned Wednesday the killing of a Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) employee by an unidentified gunman in Muntinlupa City on Tuesday.
"The Commission on Human Rights condemns the assault against a Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) official, who was shot dead by a still unidentified assailant," CHR spokesperson Jacqueline Ann de Guia said in a statement.
De Guia said "any attack on BuCor officials is also an attack on... initiatives" to help BuCor address jail management issues.
According to the Muntinlupa City Police chief, BuCor non-uniformed personnel Ruperto Traya got off his vehicle in front of his house in Barangay Poblacion when the gunman showed up and shot him multiple times.
Investigation on the incident is still ongoing.
