MANILA - A bus driver has been suspended after he sideswiped the vehicle of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority general manager on Sunday.
In a Facebook post, MMDA General Manager Tim Orbos said he was on a "leisurely Sunday 40km/hr drive with my wife" on EDSA when their vehicle was sideswiped by a Five Star bus with plate number AWB 381.
The MMDA official said he was able to catch up with the Tarlac-bound bus before Ortigas flyover after the bus sped away.
Instead of owning up to the mistake, he said the bus driver accused him of sideswiping the bigger vehicle.
"It was a hit and run incident until I blocked him going to the flyover. Then this bus driver had the arrogance and temerity to say I sideswiped him!" he said in the Facebook post.
Orbos said the bus conductor was able to recognize him and informed the driver that they were speaking to an official of the MMDA. The driver then apologized and begged him not tell his superiors about the incident.
"Tao lang po ako; wag niyo po ako isumbong at baka mawalan ako ng trabaho," he recalled the driver as saying.
The MMDA official said he referred the incident to an MMDA enforcer. He said the incident has nothing to do with his position but that the driver must face accountability.
In a text message to ABS-CBN News on Monday, Orbos said the driver was already suspended by the management of the bus company after the incident.
The driver is also required to finish training at the driver's academy of the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board before he can drive a public utility vehicle again.
