MANILA- Senator Cynthia Villar is calling for the establishment of farm schools in towns across the country.
Villar explained that establishing farm schools in towns will encourage more Filipinos to enter the agriculture sector.
"Ang mga farmer mahihirap, pag malayo ang paaralan wala na ngang pasahe, walang baon. Pero kung ang farm school nasa bayan madali nang pumasok," she said in an interview with DZMM Saturday.
Villar, who chairs the Senate Committee on Agriculture and Food, also wants to ask the Technical Educations Skills Development Authority (Tesda) to accredit farm schools so the training can be free.
Some modules which can be taught at farm schools deal with crops, livestock raising, and entering the farming business, she said.
