MANILA - Former President and incumbent Pampanga Representative Gloria Macapagal Arroyo on Sunday visited displaced Marawi residents staying in evacuation centers in Iligan City.
Arroyo distributed hygiene packs to the evacuees who have been staying in evacuation centers for at least 3 months now, due to ongoing war between state forces and Maute terrorists in Marawi.
The former President was accompanied by Iligan City Mayor Celso Regencia and Vice Mayor Jemar Vera Cruz when she visited the evacuees.
Iligan City has five evacuation centers sheltering more than 800 families from Marawi City. There are also 14,000 families living with relatives in Iligan.
Arroyo traces her roots to Iligan City as her maternal grandparents lived in the city in the 1950s. The former President also lived in her family’s ancestral house in Iligan during her childhood.
