MANDAUE CITY - A policeman who was caught on video while pointing a gun at the occupants of a truck in an apparent road rage incident was relieved from his post, an official said Saturday.
Police Officer 3 Renato Inot should not have acted "abusive and rude," said Senior Superintendent Roberto Alanas, the city police chief.
Inot, who was wearing an orange shirt over loose shorts, was seen shouting while pointing his gun at the truck, while it was stalled along A.C. Cortez Avenue in Looc village.
His unidentified companion was seen punching the driver from the open door of the truck. The video posted by a cocnerned citizen on Facebook has been viewed nearly 500,000 times.
"Medyo nagalit po ako... Ang pulis dapat maayos ang kanilang pakikipag-usap, pati sa galaw. ‘Wag kang abusado, 'wag kang bastos [I got angry. Policemen should conduct themselves properly. Don't be abusive. Don't be rude]," Alanas said.
Inot will be investigated for possible criminal and administrative charges, he said.
Mandaue City Mayor Luigi Quisumbing said he would help the occupants of the truck file cases against Inot and his companion.
"It may take time but mark my words, I will keep this city safe," Quisumbing said.
