MANILA - President Rodrigo Duterte skipped Monday the commemoration of National Heroes' Day because he was "indisposed", said his former longtime aide, Sen. Christopher "Bong" Go.
Go said Duterte signed many documents and met with Moro National Liberation Front founding chairman Nur Misuari and several others over the weekend.
"He is indisposed. Seventy-four years old na po si Pangulo at kailangan niya ring magpahinga... Ang dami namin lakad. Siya si Pangulo, ang dami niyang lakad," he told reporters.
(The President is already 74 years old, he needs to rest. We had many appointments. He is the President, he has many appointments.)
"[He is] not feeling well," he added.
There is "nothing to worry" about Duterte's health, Go said, adding that he was with the Chief Executive until 4 a.m.
Duterte tapped House Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano as his proxy in leading the National Heroes' Day commemoration at the Libingan ng mga Bayani in Marikina, said Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo.
The President on Monday afternoon will visit the families of 2 soldier killed in a clash with New People’s Army (NPA) guerrillas in Calbayog City, Samar, said Go.
Duterte earlier urged the public to be "everyday heroes who will reach out to those who are in need, especially to the ones who have been neglected by society."
