MANILA -- On June 28, 2014, PO2 Louie Quidit was assigned to patrol the commercial area of Aquino Avenue in Barangay Nayon, Baliwag, Bulacan.
The police were on high alert after a series of robbery hold-ups in pawnshops and courier centers.
One of Quidit’s colleagues said they’ve been taking extra precaution and doing more rounds in the area.
“Ang naging mandato sa amin, lagi kaming magpupunta sa establishments para tignan kung may kahina-hinalang tao doon”, SPO1 Maurice Cruz Jr. said.
But despite their best efforts, another robbery-holdup incident took place. And this time, it was a policeman who died.
One day, Quidit and a security guard were standing near a pawnshop when they noticed a man wearing a helmet enter the establishment. They continued observing until the unidentified man pulled out a gun.
Cruz said, “Ilang sandali lang bumunot na ng baril yung lalaki at tinutukan 'yung kahera”. The man declared a hold-up.
Quidit immediately responded to the scene. He tried to stop the man, but the latter started shooting. A bloody encounter took place between Quidit and the man.
Moments later, Quidit fell onto the ground. He was wounded from the said encounter.
Police investigators checked the CCTV in hopes of finding the identity of the robber.
