ZAMBOANGA CITY—An 11-year-old girl was killed while two other minors were injured after a fish carrier truck hit them along the highway of Sitio Talutap, Barangay Vitali, Zamboanga City Friday morning.
Chief Inspector Joseph Lim said three students aged five to 15 were walking to school when they were accidentally hit by an oncoming truck.
Among the three minors, an 11-year-old Grade 5 student was seriously injured as she was directly hit by the truck, sending her sliding across the pavement.
The girl died a few hours after she was rushed to a nearby hospital.
The two other minors miraculously survived the accident with minor injuries, Lim said.
The driver of the truck, Mark Omo, sustained scratches and minor wounds.
Police investigation revealed that Omo fell asleep at the wheel as he was traversing a curve road along Sitio Talutap from Iligan City.
Omo is facing a charge of reckless imprudence resulting in homicide and physical injuries and as been detained in a local police station.
