LA UNION--Four men were jailed in the Santol Municipal Police Station after police intercepted their motorcycle at a checkpoint in Sitio Cabaroan, Barangay Puguil, Santol, La Union.
Arrested were Virgilio Galawa, Ryan Palinas, Jerry Tacay, and a minor.
Galawa and Palinas are from Sugpon, Ilocos Sur, while Tacay and the 17 year-old are from Barangay Puguil.
Inspection of the two bags carried by the suspects revealed 25 elongated bundles of dried marijuana stalks and seven wrapped marijuana bricks.
These were worth Php 5, 187, 500.
Police Senior Inspector Antonio Marzan Jr. said that the items were bound for either Balaon, Baguio, or Manila.
The minor acted as one of the drivers in exchange for P4,000.
“Nakita ko po. Pero wala po kasi akong pera,” he said.
Mayor Magno Wailan of Santol plans to give employment opportunities to those who surrendered.
"Marami kaming infrastructure projects. Kakausapin ko siguro ang mga contractor to consider them also,” he said.
The minor will be turned over to the Department of Social Welfare and Development, while the rest will face charges for violating RA 9165.
