MANILA — More than 20 pieces of assorted gun parts sent from Shanghai, China were seized at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA), Customs officials here said Saturday.

According to NAIA-Customs District Collector Carmelita Talusan, the contraband was misdeclared as "personal effect" sent by a certain "Ms. Wang" from Shanghai and consigned by Abdullah Abdulmanan of Cotabato City.

But upon x-ray inspection, the contents of the parcel turned out to be 16 pieces of short handguard, 4 pieces of long handguard, and 6 pieces of handguard caps, all for ArmaLite rifles.

Talusan said the parcel was sent through a commercial courier company.

Philippine National Police Firearms and Explosives Office (PNP-FEO) chief Brig. Gen. Val de Leon said his office did not issue an import permit for the confiscated gun parts.

Under the Customs regulation, all firearms and parts thereof must have an FEO-issued import permit.

De Leon said they have sought the help of the Cotabato City police to locate Abdulmanan.
