LPA off Catanduanes may develop into 'Jolina'

MANILA - State weather bureau PAGASA on Thursday spotted a new low pressure area (LPA) off Virac, Catanduanes.

In its 11:00 a.m. advisory, PAGASA said the LPA spotted 565 east northeast of Virac may develop into a tropical depression by Friday.

It will be named "Jolina."

Currently, PAGASA clarified, the low pressure area has no direct effect to any part of the country. 

But if the weather system intensifies, PAGASA said it may enhance the southwest monsoon (habagat) on Sunday.

In its 4:00 a.m. Thursday forecast, PAGASA said occasional heavy rains due to thunderstorm is expected over the Cordilleras; in Ilocos Norte, Zambales, Bataan, and Quezon provinces; and in the Bicol and Eastern Visayas regions.
