'Jolina' now a tropical storm, signal no. 2 up in 10 areas

MANILA (UPDATED) - More provinces have been placed under Tropical cyclone warning signal #2 as tropical storm "Jolina" maintained strength and continued to move towards the Isabela-Aurora area, state weather bureau PAGASA said Friday.

As of 8 a.m., Signal #2 is raised in the following areas, where winds of 61 to 120 kph may be expected in the next 24 hours:

- Isabela,
- Northern Aurora,
- Quirino,
- Kalinga,
- Mountain Province,
- Ifugao,
- Nueva Vizcaya,
- Ilocos Sur,
- Benguet,
- Abra

The provinces of Ilocos Sur, Benguet, and Abra were earlier placed under Signal No. 1

Meanwhile, tropical cyclone warning signal #1 is up in the following areas, where winds of 30 to 60 kph may be expected in the next 36 hours:

- Cagayan including Babuyan group of islands,
- Apayao,
- La Union,
- Rest of Aurora,
- Ilocos Norte,
- Nueva Ecija,
- Pangasinan,
- Northern Quezon including Polillo island,
- Catanduanes,
- Camarines Norte,
- Camarines Sur

In its 5 a.m. weather bulletin, PAGASA said the center of "Jolina" was monitored at 300 km East Southeast of Casiguran, Aurora at 4:00 a.m.

The tropical storm is packing maximum sustained winds of 65 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 80 kph.

"Jolina" is expected to be around the vicinity of Tubo, Abra by Saturday morning, and out of the Philippine area of responsibility by Sunday morning.
