MANILA - The House Appropriations Committee on Thursday submitted to the plenary the budget of the Office of the President.
Opposition lawmaker Albay Representative Edcel Lagman moved to dispense with the presentation and to approve the budget at the committee level so it can be submitted to the plenary of the Lower House.
House Majority Leader Rodolfo Farinas seconded the motion, paving the way for the approval by the panel.
Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea, who led the OP delegation, thanked lawmakers for their support and assistance to the President.
The OP is asking for a budget of P6.03 billion for 2018, down from 2017’s P20.17 billion.
The decline is attributed to the absence of the budget for the hosting of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summit. Manila hosted the 10-nation bloc's golden anniversary this year.
