MANILA - A low pressure area spotted east of Catanduanes has developed into tropical depression "Jolina," state weather bureau PAGASA said Thursday.
Signal no. 1 is hoisted over Southern Cagayan, Isabela, and Northern Aurora.
PAGASA also said signal no. 1 may be raised over Quirino, Ifugao, Mt. Province, Kalinga and Northern Cagayan later Thursday.
The state weather bureau said "Jolina" is expected to intensify before making a landfall over Northern Luzon by Friday evening or Saturday morning.
The center of "Jolina" was located at 540 kilometers east Casiguran Aurora, PAGASA said in its 5:00 p.m. forecast.
"Jolina" is packing maximum sustained winds of up to 45 kilometers per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 60 kilometers per hour. It is moving west northwest at 17 kilometers per hour.
