Local officials suspended classes on all levels in Ormoc City and Albuera, Leyte following a magnitude 5.1 quake that hit the area Wednesday morning.
Speaking to ANC, Ormoc Mayor Richard Gomez said authorities are now inspecting buildings in the city to ensure the safety of the people. He said there have been no injuries reported so far but he is verifying reports that part of the city hospital collapsed due to the quake.
Meanwhile, Albuera officials also suspended classes from elementary to high school following the strong quake.
Instrumental Intensities I and VI were felt in Ormoc and Cebu City, respectively, due to the quake.
Intensity V, meanwhile, was recorded in Albuera, Intensity IV in Pastrana, and Intensity III in Tacloban and Palo.
Last month, a magnitude 6.5 quake rocked Ormoc and other parts of Leyte causing damage to various infrastructure.
Gomez said residents of 3 barangays remain in evacuation centers and they need more relief goods and medical supplies.
"We're asking for more relief goods, water, and medical supplies for Ormoc City," he said.
