MANILA - The Makati City government plans to connect Makati policemen's body cameras to the city's command center following the controversy over the arrest of three lawyers during a drug raid in a Makati bar.
Makati Mayor Abigail Binay said they have been arming their policemen with body cameras to ensure transparency during operations, especially on illegal drugs.
Connecting all their police body cameras to their command center will allow them to get videos and audios in real time, she said.
“Our body camera cannot be tampered [with]. Kung gusto ko makita si PO1, nakikita ko ang nakikita nya, naririnig ko ang mga sinasabi nya,” Binay said.
Makati is also in the process of acquiring drug-sniffing dogs, she said.
The mayor also said they are open to any investigation that may be conducted by either the Senate or the House of Representatives on the arrest of the three lawyers.
“The participation of the city government during the implementation of the search warrant is just [as] a simple observer,” she said.
“Kung imbitahin ang city, kami ay witness lang sa execution ng warrant, this is purely a police activity,” Binay added.
She said the city government will also implement a "one-strike policy" against business establishments that will be caught with illegal drugs.
Binay reminded bar owners and employees to immediately report any suspicious activities or incidents that may be related to illegal drugs.
