Senator Panfilo Lacson on Tuesday challenged incoming Bureau of Customs chief Director General Isidro Lapeña not to succumb to the "systemic" corruption in the agency.
Speaking to DZMM, Lacson said he is glad that Lapeña will be taking over the top Customs post.
Maski nung nasa PNP pa," he said.
He hopes that Lapeña will not be corrupted by the system inside the bureau.
President Rodrigo Duterte on Monday said he will appoint Lapeña, who is currently the head of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), to replace Nicanor Faeldon.
Lawmakers have called for Faeldon's resignation after some P6.4 billion worth of shabu from China slipped past the Port of Manila.
They asked why the contraband passed through relaxed security inspection.
Lawmakers argued that since the shipment came from China, long believed to be a major source of narcotics being smuggled into the country, it should have been inspected more thoroughly.
