DAVAO CITY - A group took advantage of the crowds attending the Kadayawan Festival in Davao City to protest the planned burial of former president Ferdinand Marcos at the Libingan ng mga Bayani.

For Konsensya Dabaw, Marcos should instead be buried in Batac, Ilocos Norte.

Mags Maglana, one of the conveners of Konsensya Dabaw, said they hope they can change the mind of President Rodrigo Duterte.

They staged the protest Sunday morning at Roxas Avenue in this city during the 31st Kadayawan Festival, to honor the 11 tribes of Davao.

The group said the dictator who facilitated encroachments into ancestral domains of the Lumad should not be honored as a hero.

"Marcos facilitated the entry of big businesses in mining, logging and plantations, often in cooperation with foreign interests. Many areas were militarized for a long time and wars frequently broke out in Mindanao. Daghan gyud siya sala sa mga Lumad (he did a lot of injustice to the Lumad)," she said.

"Today is also the Plaza Miranda anniversary which was used by Marcos as basis to declare Martial Law, and of course anniversary of the assassination of Senator Ninoy Aquino," Malana added.

They hope Duterte would consult with Martial Law victims, and hold a plebiscite to give the people the power to decide.
