MANILA—The reorganization of the House of Representatives under the 18th Congress is almost complete, House Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano said Monday.
"I think we are 80 to 90 percent organized. Dati umaabot pa ito ng October 'yung unang bill na mejo controversial pa dahil ito ay bill sa mga other tobacco products at alcohol, naipasa na namin on second reading last week. That's a record na 3 weeks na usually 4 months, 6 months, 1 year, 'di ba?" he told radio DZMM.
With Cayetano at the helm, the chamber has elected some 22 deputy speakers, which he said will fast-track legislation.
He added the chamber hopes to approve the 2020 proposed national budget first week of October.
"Ang aming target is Oct. 4 or before Oct. 4 mapasa on third reading. So ang gagawin namin ngayon umaga't hapon ang hearing, extended 'yung session, imbes na 3 o'clock, 5 o'clock... so tingin ko, work hard, play hard, puwede natin i-apply. Tapusin natin ang trabaho t'saka tayo magpahinga," he said.—Report from RG Cruz, ABS-CBN News
