BACOLOD - A dismissed cop was killed while a policeman and his 17-year old son were wounded in a shootout with unidentified gunmen in front of a school in Barangay 16, Bacolod City Saturday night.
Former policeman Federico Nicolas, who police tagged as a source of illegal drugs in the city, died from several gunshot wounds while PO1 Wilmer Bansag ang his 17-old son, who were with Nicolas, were wounded in the incident.
Nicolas was driving a Mitsubishi Adventure van with his two companions when unidentified men on a motorcycle and a white car chased them and fired at them, investigators said.
A witness said that Nicolas and his two passengers were able to fire back despite being cornered by the gunmen.
Bansag survived with gunshot wounds in the neck and body while his son suffered a gunshot wound in the left knee. They were rushed to a hospital.
Police are still determining if the shooting was drug related as they recovered two sachets of suspected shabu and a snub-nosed caliber 38 revolver from the slain former policemen.
Investigators also recovered a caliber 45 pistol from Bansag as well as several M16, caliber 45 and 9mm bullet casings from the crime scene.
