MANILA - Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte on Saturday fired back at a popular forensic pathologist for criticizing her announcement that she was pregnant with triplets.
The feisty daughter of President Rodrigo Duterte posted on her Instagram account a screenshot of a tweet from Raquel Fortun, who uses the handle @Doc4Dead.
Fortun said it might be "too early to rejoice" over a seven-week-old pregnancy and asked if the announcement was a "PR for Lolo (grandfather)?"
“Yes PR pero bago ka mag tweet basahin mo muna yung PR ng hindi ka magmukhang dugyot na ampalaya, [Yes, it's PR but please read before you tweet so you won't look like a bitter melon],” Duterte captioned her post.
Duterte said she needed to explain her absence in recent public events.
"And when I do get the heartache, it will still be a media blitz and when we defy the odds it will be a PR fiesta and you will still be Miss Bittermelon," she said.
In another Instagram post, she dedicated the song “My Own Worst Enemy” by American rock band Lit to Fortun, quoting the song’s lyrics, “It’s no surprise to me I am my own worst enemy…Can we forget about the things I said when I was drunk. I didn’t mean to call you that.”
Fortun, the country's forensic pathology pioneer, said in her tweet that it would be best to wait for the babies to be delivered.
On Saturday afternoon, Fortun defended her post, saying she never doubted the mayor’s pregnancy.
“I do wish you well. Had 2 miscarriages myself,” she said.
However, Fortun also hit back at those who reproached her tweet about Duterte-Carpio’s babies.
“There was a time when people were more discerning abt what's personal and public. But what do I know I'm not celeb,” she said.
