ILOCOS NORTE -- A retired soldier was injured after he was allegedly stabbed by his daughter in Banna, Ilocos Norte.
According to witnesses, who included family members, victim Mario Claor and his daughter Marlan, 22, were speaking with relatives when Claor started to become violent.
Claor had brought up favors he did for family members, a topic which angered him.
Accounts said that his wife and daughter tried to pacify him, but he hurt them, so Marlan stabbed Claor in the back.
Claor was rushed to the hospital, where he is now recuperating from his injury.
Marlan was arrested by the police, and is facing a possible charge of frustrated parricide. However, she insisted she was only acting in self-defense.
"Dinepensahan ko 'yung nanay ko. Pinagsasampal kasi siya at sinuntok pa, kaya hindi ko na napigilan ang sarili ko. Hindi ko naman intensyon [na patayin ang tatay ko] (I was defending my mother. She was slapped and punched, so I was not able to stop myself. It was not my intention to kill my father)," Marlan said.
She added that her father suffers from a mental illness, and gets violent due to this.
Marlan said she hopes that any charge against her will be dropped.
According to police, Claor has a prior record in their barangay.
"Naire-report siya sa barangay. Kapag hindi nakapag-intake ng medicine niya o yung maintenance niya, nagwawala (Claor has a record in the barangay. When he fails to take his medicine, he becomes violent)," Police Senior Inspector Allan Emerson Dauz said.
Police are continuing to investigate the incident.
