MANILA - Duterte Youth Party-list chairman Ronald Cardema on Saturday challenged an official of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) to prove that he is behind alleged death threats her relatives had received.
Cardema, during the first general assembly of the group on Saturday, urged Commissioner Rowena Guanzon to show the alleged threatening text messages that her nieces and nephews had supposedly received.
"Nasaan ang mga text messages sa mga nephews and nieces...kung may nag-eexist? The burden of proof is with the accuser. Bakit sasabihin niya na patunayan mo na hindi ikaw ito," he said.
(Where are the text messages to the nephews and nieces, if they exist? The burden of proof is with the accuser. Why is she saying I have to prove I was not behind it?)
Guanzon earlier claimed she has been receiving death threats from some of the party-list group's supporters following Cardema's disqualification as Duterte Youth's nominee. She said Cardema has not asked his supporters to stop.
Comelec had canceled the nomination of 34-year-old Cardema as Duterte Youth representative as the law requires youth sector nominees to be from 25 to 30 years old.
"Gusto nga naming ireport, ayaw niyang ireport. Bakit ayaw niyang ireport? Tinutulungan na nga naming hanapin kung totoo," Cardema said.
(We want to report this, why doesn't she want to? We want to help and find out if it's true.)
Duterte Youth has renominated Cardema to take the seat it had won in the House of Representatives.
