(4th UPDATE) A Chinese commercial passenger plane went off the Ninoy Aquino International Airport runway amid heavy rains just before midnight Thursday, airport officials said.

Images of the aircraft, identified as Xiamen Air flight MF 8667, Xiamen to Manila, (Boeing 737-800 B-5498), were posted on Twitter early Friday morning.

The Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA), which manages NAIA, confirmed the incident.

Photos sent to ABS-CBN News by volunteer group Fire Alert Metro Manila showed an aircraft on its belly, with emergency crews and vehicles nearby.

The @AirportWebcams account, which monitors airports worldwide, said the aircraft "appears to have suffered a runway excursion on landing after a period of holding and a missed approach." It also reported that the aircraft's engine detached.

In a post on its official Weibo account, Xiamen Air said all 157 passengers and 8 crew evacuated safely without injury.

MIAA, in a press statement, said passengers were evacuated using the aircraft's emergency chute and were brought to the NAIA Terminal 1 where they were assisted by airline and airport personnel.

Blankets and food were provided by the airline to the passengers, who were later brought to a nearby hotel.

"Investigators from the CAAP Aircraft Accident Investigating Bureau is already on site to determine the cause of the accident," MIAA said.

Boeing delivered the aircraft to Xiamen Air in 2010, and it had accumulated 26,500 hours and 14,900 cycles as of May, according to Flightglobal, a news and information website on the aviation and aerospace industries.

Due to the incident, NAIA's international runway 06/24 is closed until 12 noon Friday, according to MIAA.

Airport officials advised passengers of affected flights to closely coordinate with their airlines for announcements.
