The supporters of Vice President Leni Robredo have amassed P7 million for the second payment for her counter-protest against defeated vice presidential candidate Bongbong Marcos' poll protest.
In a statement Tuesday, the Piso Para sa Laban ni Leni campaign said it was only short of P400,000 to reach its P7.4 million target.
"Every peso is a contribution of the Filipino voter - a tricycle driver, OFW, housewife, laborer, artist, entrepreneur and industry leader, in protection of his/her vote," former human rights commissioner Paulynn Sicam said.
In May, Robredo paid P8 million in cash as initial installment for her counter-protest.
The recount of the 2016 vice presidential votes is expected to begin mid-August after the Supreme Court, sitting as the Presidential Electoral Tribunal, decided to push through with former Senator Marcos' electoral protest against Robredo.
The Marcos camp wants to prove that there were about 3.9 million missing votes for the position of vice president.
Marcos lost to Robredo by merely 263,473 votes.
