The Department of Agriculture in Region 7 identified areas in Central Visayas where migratory birds possibly carrying the virus causing avian flu can be found.
In Cebu, the islands of Olango and Bantayan; towns of Argao, Minglanilla, Lilo-an, Cordova, Dalaguete, and San Fernando; and cities of Talisay and Naga are on the list.
In Bohol, the towns of Calape and Talibon are on the list.
In Negros Oriental, the towns of Ayungon, Siaton, Majuyod, Santa Catalina, and the cities of Canlaon, Bayawan, Tanjay and Bais are considered hotspots.
Personnel from the DA have been deployed to these areas to monitor the birds and examine them.
Regional director Salvador Diputado assured residents that poultry products in the region are safe to eat.
