MANILA - A man was killed while at least 21 others were injured after two buses figured in an accident in Rosales, Pangasinan Monday morning.
Town police deputy chief Senior Insp. Filemon Oligo, Jr. said a mini-bus tried to overtake a vehicle in the rain-drenched Don Teofilo Sison Bridge in Barangay Carmen.
The mini-bus, however, swerved and collided head-on with a Viron Transit bus in the opposite lane. The buses also grazed two tricycles.
Byron Transit driver Rogelio Molina Reyes was crushed between the steering wheel and his seat due to the force of the impact.
Oligo said Reyes died on the way to the hospital.
Injured passengers from the bus and the tricycles remained at the Polymedic General Hospital and Dr. Chan Hospital in adjoining Villasis town, as of posting time.
The mini-bus driver will face police investigation as soon as he is discharged from the hospital, Oligo said.
The Byron Transit bus was from Cubao, Quezon City and was on its way to Narvacan, Ilocos Norte. The mini-bus was from Dagupan City. -- With reports from Edwin Sevidal, DZMM and Joanna Tacason, ABS-CBN News
