MANILA (UPDATE) -- Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Gen. Oscar Albayalde ordered Wednesday a reshuffling of senior officers in the law enforcement agency, according to a reassignment order from the National Police Commission.

Brig. Gen. Eliseo Cruz was named director of the PNP Highway Patrol Group, according to an order signed by Police Maj. Gen. Lyndon Cubos, director of the PNP Personnel and Records Management.

Cruz previously led the Southern Police District (SPD), which covered the police force in the cities of Las Piñas, Makati, Muntinlupa, Parañaque, Pateros, Pasay, and Taguig.

Brig. Gen. Nolasco Bathan, meanwhile, was appointed SPD director.

Bathan served as director of the Eastern Police District (EPD) since June 25. He succeeded Christopher Tambungan, who was relieved after allegedly assaulting a policewoman.

Brig. Gen. Johnson Almazan will replace Bathan as the new head of the EPD, which covers the cities of Mandaluyong, Marikina, Pasig, and San Juan.

Major Gen. Reynaldo Biay was appointed director of the PNP-Directorate for Research and Development while Brig. Gen General Roberto Fajardo was named new director of the Civil Security Group.
