Police Col. Rizalito Gapas was formally installed Wednesday as the new director of the Negros Oriental Provincial Police Office, taking over the post after the province's top cop was relieved over a spate of murders still unsolved.
Formerly police chief of Pasig City, Gapas vowed to "make some changes" to the province, citing the need to beef up their strategy in addressing the insurgency problem in the province.
Negros Oriental Governor Roel Degamo, who attended the turnover rites, wants the new director to also focus on illegal gambling and drugs.
"It is the job of the PNP to go hard on criminality," Gapas responded.
Gapas has big shoes to fill especially since his predecessor Police Col. Raul Tacaca was relieved following a series of killings in the province last July.
The incidents remain unsolved until today.
