Peter Lim a no show
MANILA - Self-confessed drug trader Kerwin Espinosa attended Monday the start of a preliminary investigation into drug charges filed against him, businessman Peter Lim and several others.
The police Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG), which filed the complaint, earlier alleged that Lim supplied shabu to Espinosa for more than 2 years. The pair, CIDG said, controlled the narcotics trade in Central and Eastern Visayas.
Espinosa was wearing a bullet proof vest when he arrived at the Department of Justice (DOJ) for the preliminary hearing into the charges.
Lim meanwhile missed the proceedings and was represented by his lawyer. Also absent from the hearing were Espinosa's alleged underlings, including convicted drug lord Peter Co and Lovely Impal.
Lim's lawyer, Magilyn Loja, denied the alleged drug activities of her client, whom police said was known in the criminal underworld as "Jaguar."
The DOJ gave respondents until August 24 to file their counter-affidavits for alleged violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act. -- With Johnson Manabat, ABS-CBN New
