MANILA - The Philippine National Police Counter Intelligence Task Force on Monday said "scalawags" in the police force are using the war on drugs to conduct extortion activities.
Nicanor issued the statement after 7 Navotas cops surrendered to the PNP-CITF for kidnapping and extorting P100,000 from the parents of a drug suspect.
The 7 Navotas cops have been charged with kidnapping and physical injuries.
To date, 57 police have already been arrested by the PNP-CITF. 1,215 text complaints have been received in relation to police scalawags, 209 of which related to extortion activities.
Topping the complaints list are police who allegedly protect illegal drugs. Second on the list are related to police who themselves are drug users or pushers.
