A tropical depression outside of the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) has developed into a storm, state meteorologists said Sunday.

Weather bureau PAGASA said the storm, with the international name of "Chantu," will enhance the southwest monsoon or habagat.

Monsoon rains may trigger flashfloods and landslides in Metro Manila, Central Luzon, Calabarzon and Mimaropa, PAGASA said. Occasional rains will prevail over Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) and Western Visayas.
