MANILA - Kabataan Party-list Rep. Sarah Elago said Sunday their group may organize a dialogue between parents and their estranged children who joined leftist groups.
This follows a Senate hearing on leftist groups' alleged recruitment of minors from colleges and universities.
During the hearing, several parents had complained that their children had left home and gone missing after joining leftist groups in their schools.
"We can support parents by organizing a setting or a place where the parents, both the parents and their children can feel free to exchange their messages to each other," Elago said in an interview with ANC.
She also encouraged the parents who attended the hearing called by Sen. Ronald dela Rosa, to talk to their children.
Elago, however, maintained that there was nothing wrong with "legitimate organized groups" from recruiting students. She pointed out that this was different from the recruitment of minors into armed groups.
The lawmaker also warned against proposals to let police into college campuses to discourage the recruitment by leftist groups.
This will result in the repression of dissent by students and teachers, Elago said.
