MANILA - The registration of Duterte Youth Party-list may be removed due to misrepresentation, an official of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) said Friday.
Comelec Commissioner Rowena Guanzon made the remark after the party-list again named former youth commissioner Ronald Cardema as its representative following his disqualification.
Guanzon earlier said she has ordered an investigation into Cardema for allegedly committing a criminal offense of material representation.
"'Di naman 'yun unfair sa kanila kasi 'yun talaga ang batas. Ang sinasabi ko nga na fake 'yung mga bata eh. Kasi sabi youth sector hindi naman pala youth so na fake 'yung mga bata na bumoto dun," she told ABS-CBN News.
(That's not unfair to them because it's under the law. They say they are the youth sector but they are not young, so the youth who voted for them were deceived.)
"We have grounds under the rules and under the Partylist Act isa na dun ang (one of which is) violation of the rules and regulation and the law at saka (and) misrepresentation."
Guanzon said the Comelec will give the party-list a chance to file an appeal.
"'Pag nag-file po sila ng petition sa amin ihe-hearing po namin 'yun. Hindi naman ho ika-cancel namin basta-basta ‘yung registration," she said.
(If they file a petition, the Comelec will conduct a hearing, we won't just cancel their registration right away.)
Guanzon, meanwhile, said she remains unbothered by Cardema's alleged threats.
The commissioner earlier said she received fresh threats from Cardema against her and her family and urged him to address these publicly.
"I don’t need his apology. I just want him to know na hindi niya ako puwedeng i-threat threat nang ganyan na (he can't threat me and he will) just get away with it," she said.
"Siya ayaw niya magrespeto, submit pa rin siya ng pangalan niya diyan. Ano ba talaga hindi ba niya na intindihan 'yung desisyon?"
(He doesn't want to respect Comelec's decision, he again submitted his name. What does he not understand about the decision?)
