Sen. Gregorio Honasan on Friday decided to post bail in a local court outside Metro Manila as the Sandiganbayan may not honor it if done within the metro, radio DZMM reported.
The presence of media waiting at the Sandiganbayan may also delay the bail process.
Honasan, accompanied by his lawyer Dennis Manalo, posted a P60,000 bail at the sala of Judge Teodoro Solis of the Biñan City Regional Trial Court Branch 25 Friday morning.
The bail is for 2 counts of graft which stemmed from alleged irregularities in the disbursement of P30 million from Honasan's pork barrel funds in 2012 to a bogus non-government organization.
After the documentation process, Solis signed the senator's release order.
Honasan made bail a day after the Sandiganbayan 2nd Division ordered the senator's arrest after finding probable cause in the graft charges filed against him in relation to the multibillion peso Priority Development Assistance Fund (PDAF) scam.
