BAGUIO - A 9-year-old boy drowned in a creek in Baguio City Wednesday afternoon.
July Niel Rivero was found dead in the deep part of a creek in Km. 4, Asin, Baguio City.
Dante Rivero, the boy’s father, said he arrived home at around 4:30 p.m. and found his children playing.
A few minutes later, some of the residents crowded at the lower part of the creek because someone has drowned.
Some of the residents called for police assistance.
“'Pag dating ng pulis dun, ang daming tao, pero wala naman silang ginagawa. So 'yung pulis, naghubad at kinuha 'yung bata sa ilalim, dumating yung EMS (emergency medical services), tinry i-revive pero wala na,” said Chief Insp. Benedict Gang-aoen, Baguio City Police Station 9 chief.
July Niel is the fifth of Rivero's six children and has a twin.
The father said he suspects his son fell from the upper floor of their house into the creek and was swept away by the water current.
July Niel sustained injuries on his head.
“Sabi nung kambal niya, naglalaro daw sila dito (sa taas), may sampay nun dito eh. Ang problema, iniwan niya,” Rivero said.
Authorities advised residents to take caution and not to swim in the creek.
