MANILA—Act now or lose them to leftist groups.

This was Sen. Ronald "Bato" Dela Rosa's warning to parents worried that their children may have been recruited by left-leaning organizations in school.

"Gumawa na kayo ng hakbang bilang parents para ito ay maiwasan na tuluyan na mawala sa inyo ang anak ninyo," Dela Rosa, chairman of Senate committee on public order, told radio station DWIZ on Saturday.

(Take steps now as parents, so you can stop losing your children to these groups.)

Dela Rosa this week launched an investigation into leftist groups' supposed recruitment of minors from colleges and universities, saying such an activity must stop.

Several parents faced the Senate last Wednesday expressing grief over their missing children after they were allegedly recruited by leftist groups in school.

According to Dela Rosa, parents must take note of their children's change in behavior as it could be a sign that they have been "brainwashed" by groups linked to the communist movement.

"Kung nakikita mong may pagka-pilosopo na 'yung anak mo, kung nagiging matigas na 'yung ulo, senyales 'yan na ito ay na-brainwash na ng kaliwa," the senator told DWIZ.

(If you see your child becoming more stubborn and difficult to deal with, it's a sign that he's been brainwashed by the left.)

Dela Rosa's Senate inquiry did not sit well with left-leaning organizations, claiming it was meant to harass groups and critics of the administration.
