MANILA - Davao City Mayor and presidential daughter Sara Duterte on Thursday told businessmen to help curb corruption in government by not taking "shortcuts" when applying for permits.
"In local government units, we bend over backwards para lang ipasok niyo investment sa lugar pero wag naman i-shortcut, huwag 'yung babayaran na lang mga tao," the Davao mayor said in told attendees of the 24th National Retail Conference.
"Our country is bleeding because of government corruption but clients are just equally guilty of corruption," she said.
The presidential daughter asked the business sector to bear with queues and processes while the government continues to find ways to eliminate red tape.
Last year, President Rodrigo Duterte moved to crack down on red tape and flip-flopping government policies by ordering his Cabinet to reduce transaction times and remove “redundant” requirements of government offices.
"Let us be responsible partners in achieving progress and development for the Philippines," she said.
