CEBU CITY - Authorities seized almost P13 million worth of suspected shabu in a sting operation in Barangay Tisa here late Wednesday, following 2 months of surveillance.
Operatives of the Cebu City police intelligence branch arrested suspected drug pushers Mheacy Empasis and Trinidad Lumactao after they accepted P7,000 in marked money.
The suspects are both "high-value targets" who sell roughly 50 to 70 grams of shabu every week, said Chief Insp. Christopher Navida, the city's intelligence director.
Navida said Empasis and Lumactao's names have been consistently mentioned by suspects nabbed in earlier anti-narcotics operations.
"Nag-cross boundary sila hindi lang sa Talisay, pati Pasil, Duljo at Inayawan," said the official, referring to barangays where the suspects are known to operate.
"Itong isang nadakip natin na si Mheacy, live-in partner niya ang certain Parba na nasa city jail na ngayon," Navida added.
Their arrest, he said, could help cut the narcotics supply in Cebu City.
The suspects, however, have denied the allegations.
The amount of shabu confiscated from them is the second biggest drug haul seized so far in the city this year, intelligence operatives said.
The arrest was the latest in a string of anti-drug operations in Cebu City, which President Rodrigo Duterte recently called a "drug hot spot." Previous operations had led to the arrest of local officials allegedly involved in the illicit trade. -- Report from Donna Lavares, ABS-CBN News
